PhD on Elastic Optical Networks (In collaboration BIT Group, IIIT Delhi and British Telecom, UK)
We at BIT Group in IIIT Delhi, invite applications for PhD positions in the area of Elastic Optical Network (EONs). The positions will be funded through the research grant available with Dr. Abhijit Mitra.
About EON: There has been an exponential rise in the end user data traffic in the access network due plethora of data services like Video-on-Demand and Video Conferencing based on 4G and 5G technology. Consequently the traffic in the backbone network connecting cities will also increase. Therefore service providers need to dynamically provision the network spectral resources and also increase the capacity of network lightpaths to operate beyond 100 Gbps. This has lead to the inception of Elastic Optical Network (EONs) as an upgrade to Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM).
Positions: 2 PhD positions on Elastic Optical Networks (Physical Layer), ECE Dept., IIIT Delhi
under (Dr. Abhijit Mitra, Prof. Anand Srivastava and Prof. Andrew Lord)
Scope of Work:
-
Explore the role of Multibands in optical fiber and how it can help us to increase the capacity of a larger network.
-
Sequentially, if capacity from Multibands is not enough, then we need to explore the role of Few Mode Fibers and Multi Core Fibers.
-
Study the In-operation Spectrum assignment and management for FMF, Multi Core Fibers and Multibands . Also look into evolved protection strategies based upon the bands and type of equipment.
-
The selected candidate may get a chance to work with leading researchers at British Telecom Labs, Ipswich with yearly visits to Prof. Andrew Lord, UK. Position 1 and 2 will be in collaboration with British Telecom, UK.
-
The candidate will also monitor the design and upgradation strategy of Pan-India backbone optical network.
Candidate Background:
-
It is desirable for a candidate to be experienced in Object Oriented Programming on C sharp, Python.
-
Strong background in Digital Communication, Optical Communication and demonstrate excellent understanding of noise performance of fiber amplifiers.
-
It will be desirable for a candidate to demonstrate the concepts on fiber nonlinearity.
-
Qualifications: Candidates must have done their M.Tech or MS and done modules on Digital Communication and Optical Communication. Candidates from Physics (Optics) background are also encouraged to apply.
-
Candidate should have excellent team working skills and be capable to work in a dynamic work environment.
Pay Package: Year 1 and 2 the candidate will get DST recommended stipend of JRF( Rs.25000+30% HRA) and Year 3 and Year 4 as an SRF (Rs. 28000+30%HRA).
